THE LAM FOUNDATION

Contributing to organizations that help improve lives

Since 2000, Lam Research has donated more than $30 million to our foundation giving program. Through our partnerships with East Bay Community Foundation and Silicon Valley Community Foundation, many millions of dollars have been distributed to non-profit organizations around the world to support our core program areas and activities our employees are passionate about.

Our foundation giving focuses on two main areas, K-12 STEM/Education programs and Quality of Life programs. To maximize the positive long-term impact of our financial support, Lam Research directs all grant funding to ensure strategic investments are made in our focus areas. As a result, we do not review unsolicited requests.

Education

The achievement of students and young leaders in our communities around the world is important to us. By meeting community educational needs with sustainable programs, we expect to advance the quality of education, with a focus on math and science.

K-12 Programs

From hands-on science programs for elementary and junior high students to introductory engineering courses for high school students, engaging, interactive programs help to extend learning beyond the classroom. Programs emphasize K-12 math and science education with the expectation that better-prepared and more-confident students will be drawn to the challenging and rewarding careers that can be found in technology and engineering. In addition to math and science, Lam’s education program support includes achievement or gender gap challenges, secondary education preparedness, education quality improvement, and workforce readiness.

Lam Research Community Scholarship

Core Values Scholarships

Each year, Lam Research awards scholarships of $10,000 each to graduating seniors at high schools in Fremont, California; Livermore, California; Hillsboro, Oregon, and Tualatin, Oregon. Since this program started in 2003, the company has awarded more than $900,000 in scholarships that have benefited more than 100 students. Students are selected by community leaders and representatives from Lam Research based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, and demonstration of Lam’s Core Values. The scholarships support the students while they are enrolled in a college of their choice. Scholarship applications are available through the schools early each calendar year.

University Relationships

Lam Research collaborates with universities and industry associations by supporting research, building relationships, and assisting graduate and undergraduate students. Examples of some of the ways we work together are by:

  • Advancing research – We provide research grants, Fellows programs, equipment donations, and joint scientific papers. The company also established the Lam Research Distinguished Chair in Semiconductor Processing in 2011, the first-ever endowed chair in UC Berkeley’s Nanosciences and Nanoengineering Institute
  • Assisting students – Lam Research sponsors thesis competitions, internships, and scholarships through university program funding

Quality of Life

Lam is committed to creating a positive impact in communities around the world by investing in programs that share our Core Values. We support underserved populations or community shortcomings such as hunger, food or water security, disadvantaged children or senior citizens, economically disadvantaged communities, health improvement, and environmental protection.

Through our Foundation, Lam contributes to local, national, and international organizations – such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation, Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools, Give2Asia, Singapore Children’s Society, Boyo Social Welfare Foundation in Taiwan, and many others – that help to improve people’s lives.

In addition to grants for social service needs, Lam supports regional disaster relief efforts through matching gifts and foundation giving for initial response, recovery, and rebuilding.
