Global Labs - Lam Research

Architected for Velocity

A global network of labs
designed for the AI era.

In the AI era, the ability to compress development cycles is a decisive competitive advantage. To achieve this compression, Lam has built an interconnected network of specialized labs around the globe spanning every phase of innovation, from pathfinding and foundational research to product development. The network goes where our customers are, with sites near their facilities where our engineers and theirs solve the toughest problems together. Our global network accelerates learning and enables 24-hour, parallel development cycles across regions, pairing speed to solution with deep technology expertise to increase the velocity of the next breakthrough.

Lam’s planned multi-site expansion is expected to add infrastructure and capabilities to increase experiment capacity by more than 50%. Lam’s purpose-built approach accelerates every phase of innovation, with deep customer collaboration that includes locations near customer facilities. With this investment, Lam intends to further compress product development cycles for customers, from pathfinding to fab deployment.

One connected network

Lam has grown its global lab network in the US, Asia, and Europe. The integrated lab network enables tools, data, and expertise to be shared across locations and time zones, so innovation can move in parallel at scale.

World map with Lam Global Labs locations

Lam’s specialized labs accelerate foundational research in new chemistries, materials, and mechatronics, compressing weeks of experimentation into days in many cases. As advances move toward production readiness, process development labs and customer-proximate technology centers bring engineering, product development, manufacturing, and customer teams together on the same tools to speed qualification and validation.

Oregon Lab Expansion

The new Tualatin development lab will be one of the most advanced R&D facilities in the world, adding 120,000 square feet and increasing cleanroom lab space by 50%. Opening in 2028, the state-of-the-art facility builds on Lam’s strength in deposition and etch process development, materials science pathfinding and hardware validation. It will enable lab technicians to work collaboratively with colleagues around the world 24/7 to compress development cycles and accelerate the creation of new solutions – from pathfinding to production.

Lam’s broader expansion in Oregon is expected to create more than 400 high-quality jobs* once completed and $1.85B in long-term annual economic impact.
